365 Days of Photography - Day #13

I wish I could say I was this close to a Spotted Eagle Owl in the wild, but this was taken at the Montecasino Bird Gardens in Johannesburg, during their one of their daily shows where they display all the animals.

365 Days of Photography - Day #12

My Grandfather has always been a big influence in my life, especially when it comes to photography. I was on holiday in the Ithala Game Reserve with my girlfriend and my family for Christmas in 2012 when my grandfather came running to call me to take a photograph of this blister beetle.

365 Days of Photography - Day #11

I love getting out into the bush and the Kruger National Park has always been one of my favorite places to go on holiday. Every trip before this particular trip, I have only ever seen hippo from a distance or almost completely submerged underwater. The lodge I stayed at this time, Camp Shawu, was right on the edge of a big dam. So I naturally spent of lot of time on the deck snapping away at the unusually active hippo in the dam. This hippo was splashing around and stopped to look at me as if he was slightly embarrassed.

365 Days of Photography - Day #10

As you walk into the Montecasino Bird Gardens in Johannesburg, you will find one lonely little African Grey Parrot sitting on a perch by himself. He isn’t in an enclosure like most of the other birds but he doesn’t move from his spot. He also seems to enjoy having his photo taken, as I was able to take quite a couple of shots of him in different poses.

365 Days of Photography - Day #9

One late afternoon in Lonehill Park I waited for the sun to start setting and managed to capture this silhouette shot of the park bench against the sky. I used the same shot and photo-shopped some birds in as a fun little project for myself.

365 Days of Photography - Day #8

I found this little dung beetle in the Ithala Game Reserve and was walking along the ground extremely fast and I followed him for quite a while, snapping away. It was extremely difficult to get a good shot but eventually I managed to get this one, which turned out to be the best of the whole lot.

365 Days of Photography - Day #7

One of the Cape Eagle Owl’s in the Johannesburg Zoo had so much character the last time I was there. It was all scruffy and it looked like he was extremely cold, but trying really hard to sleep. The dark background made him stand out and I really liked the way this shot came out.

365 Days of Photography - Day #6

Whilst in Cape Town with my girlfriend in May 2013, we decided to drive down to Cape Point and stop as much as we liked on the way down. It was a beautiful day (not as beautiful as my girlfriend) and our very first stop was at Hout Bay. There is a small picnic area, which is the perfect location to take photos of the bay. We spent quite a bit of time taking pictures and walked away with some really great shots.

365 Days of Photography - Day #5

I spent some time in the garden at my girlfriends house trying to snap some shots of the rabbits that run freely there. In the beginning it was tough to get close enough to get a decent shot, but once they realized I wasn't going to hurt them (and that they were probably faster than me) they seemed to relax and allowed me close enough to get some good snaps.

365 Days of Photography - Day #4

While I enjoy the bigger animals like lion, elephant, rhino, etc, I also enjoy the smaller animals that are sometimes harder to find. Animals like this little terrapin. I found it wandering around a sand bank near a small river. It was headed towards a crocodile and I’ll be honest, I thought this little terrapin would be lunch. I had my camera poised to capture the action and I was surprised to see it give the crocodile a little kiss before heading back down to the river.

365 Days of Photography - Day #3

On one trip to the Kruger National Park, in South Africa, we spotted a pride of lion just on the other side of a dam on which our lodge was situated. Our driver was kind enough to take us on an unplanned little game drive to the other side where we were able to get up nice and close to the pride.

365 Days of Photography - Day #2

On one trip to the Kruger National Park, in South Africa, I was on an early morning game drive when we found one rhino all by himself. It was a misty morning, which worked well to create a soft background.

365 Days of Photography - Day #1

I find sunset shots particularly fun and challenging to take. On one trip to the Kruger National Park, in South Africa, I was on a late afternoon game drive when this tree came into view with the sun perfectly behind it. I asked our driver, Isaac to reverse slightly until we were in the right position. I took a few shots and this was my favorite.

365 Days of Photography - Introduction

My name is Bradley and I take photographs as a hobby. I’m by no means a professional, but I do enjoy what I do and I would like to share my photographs with anyone who is interested in looking at them. I mostly do wildlife and nature photography, but occasionally I will do some travel photography and maybe a photo shoot here and there.

Bradley's Website

I decided to challenge myself and post one or more photos every single day for an entire year, starting on the 18th November. The photos won’t be taken and uploaded the same day, I mean who has time to do that? ;) I’ll be posting photos I have taken recently.

From the 18th November my yearlong challenge will commence and I look forward to any comments you may have.

Some of the photos I will be putting up are also for sale on the sites below:
